Open-Air Canberra

Rooftop Garden Terrace

The 480sqm terrace on the building's ninth level was designed by a Yarralumla-based landscape practice with a specific brief: create a planted space that reflects the ACT's native flora without feeling like a botanical exhibit. The result is a working garden - seasonal, deliberately imperfect at the edges, and genuinely good to sit in - rather than a decorative green roof. Canberra's 330 nights of clear sky annually make this space usable across more of the year than equivalent hotel terraces in higher-rainfall cities, and the hotel's outdoor booking guarantee reflects that climate reality with a written weather policy.

ACT Native Planting Scheme

Every plant species on the terrace is native to the Australian Capital Territory or the immediate surrounding region - the planting plan was developed in consultation with the Australian National Botanic Gardens in Acton.

Outdoor Dining Configuration

The terrace accommodates 60 covers in a fixed configuration with the option to reconfigure for standing events up to 140 guests - Civic Table's kitchen services the terrace directly via a dedicated outdoor pass.

Parliamentary Triangle Sightline

From the terrace's northern edge, the sight line clears surrounding buildings entirely, delivering a direct view across to Capital Hill - particularly striking during the autumn months when the parliamentary avenue plantings turn.

Programmable Lighting Architecture

The terrace lighting runs on a colour-temperature programme that mirrors the natural sunset progression - warm amber as the sun drops over the Brindabellas, shifting to a cooler neutral by full dark to preserve the night-sky quality Canberra is known for.

Weather Guarantee Policy

Any outdoor reservation affected by rain receives an automatic transfer to an indoor equivalent space at no rebooking charge - the hotel tracks Bureau of Meteorology forecasts 72 hours out and contacts affected guests before they need to ask.

Private Terrace Hire

The full terrace is available for exclusive hire from Sunday through Thursday for groups of 30 to 140 - a configuration that works particularly well for government department end-of-year events and embassy-level receptions.
